Stellantis, the parent company of brands like Jeep, Ram, and Citroen, is reportedly considering a collaboration with Chinese automaker Zhejiang Leapmotor to expand its presence in the Chinese car market. While the partnership has not been confirmed, discussions are reportedly ongoing.
Leapmotor, founded in 2015 and based in Hangzhou, China, has been making a mark in the electric vehicle market. Its “Four Leaf Clover” platform is of particular interest, featuring an integrated computing platform capable of controlling various intelligent functions in EVs, including autonomous driving and cockpit controls.
Several other American and European automakers have already formed partnerships with Chinese carmakers to tap into the growing Chinese electric vehicle market. General Motors works with SAIC and Wuling, while Volkswagen has announced a significant investment in Xpeng.
China is a key market for various global automakers, and forming collaborations with local companies can provide them with better access to the rapidly evolving and competitive Chinese EV market. As the world’s largest car market, China holds significant potential for electric vehicle adoption and innovation.
