Sneak Peek: Mercedes-Benz Teases Concept CLA Class EV Ahead of September 3rd Debut

Mercedes-Benz is set to unveil the Concept CLA Class, an electric vehicle (EV) prototype, at the upcoming IAA Mobility event in Munich. This concept car will be the first model to ride on the new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) and is expected to offer an impressive range of 466 miles with a consumption rate of approximately 12 kWh per 100 km.

The teaser image released by Mercedes-Benz suggests that the Concept CLA will feature distinctive styling compared to the brand’s current EQ electric models. Notably, the grille appears larger and distinct from the headlights, a departure from the EQE and EQS models. While it’s considered a concept vehicle, it is expected to provide a preview of the next-generation production model.

Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius stated that the Concept CLA Class is a forerunner for a new lineup of electric-first vehicles designed to be the gateway into the world of Mercedes-Benz. These models are part of the company’s commitment to redefining the EV segment, and they will be developed from scratch on the new dedicated MMA platform. It’s worth noting that these upcoming electric models may not carry the EQ branding that is currently used for Mercedes’ electric lineup, as the company reportedly intends to electrify its entire vehicle range, moving away from a specific electric-only designation.

While the Concept CLA provides an exciting glimpse into the future of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles, the production version is not expected to hit the streets immediately, as the current CLA-Class received a facelift for 2024. The transition to an all-electric lineup is slated to begin in 2024, aligning with the production launch of the next CLA-Class.
