The CUPRA DarkRebel Showcar, set to be unveiled at the IAA in Munich, represents a fusion of advanced design and performance. This showcar has redefined conventional design methods, leveraging cutting-edge technologies typically used in video game development. The design process was also a collaborative effort with the CUPRA Tribe, allowing enthusiasts to influence the final design.
The development of the showcar’s architecture was entirely digital. After initial sketches were approved, the visual design team, led by Manel Garcés, played a vital role. They used state-of-the-art video game engine technologies like Unreal Engine to create a virtual model that offered limitless possibilities for design exploration. This approach also allowed the CUPRA Tribe to participate in shaping the car’s design.
The CUPRA Tribe played a significant role in the design process. Users could design their own CUPRA DarkRebel Showcar using an immersive Hyper Configurator developed for this purpose, also based on Unreal Engine. Over 270,000 online configurations from the global CUPRA Tribe influenced the final design of the showcar. Notably, 74% of users accessed the Hyper Configurator via mobile devices, highlighting its appeal to the next generation.
The CUPRA DarkRebel Showcar will make its global debut on September 3 during the Volkswagen Group Media Night, followed by its presentation at the CUPRA event at the IAA Munich Open Space on the following day.
