Tesla seems to be continuing its playful approach to trolling pickup truck competitors by wrapping its Cybertruck to resemble other popular pickup models. After wrapping a Cybertruck to resemble a Ford F-150 last month, a new sighting shows a Cybertruck wrapped to look like a Toyota Tundra.
The original Cybertruck with an F-150 wrap was seen on public roads in California, and speculation arose that Tesla might be poking fun at Ford’s pickup truck design. Elon Musk has previously criticized the lack of innovation in traditional pickup truck designs, using this perspective to justify the Cybertruck’s radical design.
Now, a second wrapped Cybertruck resembling a Toyota Tundra has been spotted. The Tundra is a well-known pickup model in the US market. This playful approach to wraps and camouflage is unusual for Tesla, as the company has rarely used wraps or camouflage on its prototype vehicles. However, Tesla has been using wraps on the Cybertruck prototypes more frequently.
The wraps are significant for the Cybertruck since the vehicle will only be available in its original stainless steel finish. This means that customers wanting different colors will have to resort to wraps. It’s unclear if Tesla plans to offer factory wraps or if third-party companies will take up the market for customization.
The Cybertruck’s official launch and production version are expected to be revealed at a delivery event in late September. Until then, these creative wraps seem to be Tesla’s way of keeping the public intrigued and having some fun with the competition.
