Hyundai is introducing an in-car payments service called Hyundai Pay for the 2024 Hyundai Kona electric, offering vehicle owners the convenience of making payments directly through their car’s touchscreen.
Hyundai has partnered with Parkopedia for the launch of its in-car payments service, starting with a parking payment method. Drivers in the United States will be able to use their vehicle’s touchscreen to discover, reserve, and pay for more than 6,000 parking spots.
This in-car payments system is being rolled out with the release of the 2024 Hyundai Kona electric, which will be available at dealerships in the fall.
Hyundai has plans to expand this payment service to nine additional models through over-the-air (OTA) updates, although the specific vehicles were not disclosed. Likely candidates for this feature include models like the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and future Hyundai electric vehicles (EVs). Hyundai has indicated that its payment platform will encompass more features and EV-related use cases in the future.
Parkopedia’s services can be utilized in 90 countries, encompassing parking, EV charging, and toll payments. The company has an extensive global database, which enables it to provide accurate location data for matching charger locations to its existing database of over 70 million parking spaces.
Hyundai envisions its payment platform as a “scalable in-car payments system” that could eventually include additional use cases relevant to daily commutes and longer journeys, hinting at the possibility of EV charging integration in the future.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona electric features a refreshed design, new features, and a modern, tech-infused interior. It offers two battery options: a 48.6 kWh battery for an estimated range of 197 miles or a 64.8 kWh battery for an estimated range of 260 miles. While pricing details for the 2024 model have not been disclosed, it is expected to start at around $35,000, making it a competitive choice in the affordable EV market. The 2023 Hyundai Kona electric, with up to 258 miles of range, remains a great value for those seeking an affordable EV option.
